Tristan Scroggins

With a signature raw mandolin groove, bold fashion sense, charismatic yet soft spoken confidence, and keen sensitivity to style and artistic innovation, twenty-six year old GRAMMY award nominated mandolinist Tristan Scroggins is quickly becoming a highly influential voice of both music and community in the world of bluegrass.
"More than a one-trick musician, he can stand up and belt hard core, up-tempo bluegrass breaks in modern or Monroe style or dive into classical violin music on mandolin to suite his performance needs....a Renaissance man in the making."

Old Time Fiddle Tune Favorites - TAB & Notation

This is a book for mandolin players who are interested in old time fiddle tunes but don't know where to start. I’ve curated a selection of 15 tunes that I have played in jams in all the places I’ve been. I’ve written out a simple but accurate version of the melody I learned in jams and included some history of the tune and where I learned it. I’ve also listed versions of the tune that can easily be found on the internet.

Fancy Boy highlights a style of crosspicking developed by Tristan Scroggins. Based on the crosspicking style created by Jesse McReynolds, one of bluegrass music's most famous mandolin players and innovators. Scroggins incorporates advanced left-hand techniques into his arrangements in a style reminiscent of Bill Keith’s melodic banjo innovations. It has cheekily been referred to by his peers as “Scroggs Style.”
The hours upon hours Scroggins has devoted to the technique show, as he carefully and deliberately teases crosspicking melodies out of each of these tunes — no matter how difficult that task may be.

"Working with Tristan Scroggins is always a 360 degree proposition. He looks at every project, tune, and technique from each possible angle. He loves to combine research on the past with an eye toward the future. I believe Tristan is going to make a mark on traditional music in some surprising ways."
